Why does an assessment cost so much?

Psychological assessments involve significantly more work than the assessment appointments themselves.

The process may include:

  • Clinical interviews
  • Administration and scoring of psychometric measures
  • Review of collateral information
  • Interpretation of results
  • Report writing
  • Feedback sessions
  • Communication with other professionals where appropriate

A comprehensive assessment often involves many hours of work occurring both during and outside of appointments.

Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan?

A Mental Health Care Plan can generally be used for assessment appointments that involve a psychological service.

However, Medicare rebates only apply to eligible appointment sessions and do not cover report writing, psychometric test materials, scoring, interpretation, or administrative components of the assessment process.

As a result, clients should expect out-of-pocket costs for most assessment services.

Our goal is not simply to provide a diagnosis. We aim to provide practical insight, clear recommendations, and a roadmap for moving forward.
